Giclee (pronounced 'jee … clay') is the term commonly used for what is currently the most advanced digital fine art printmaking technology. After the original illustration is completed, images are scanned into a computer and high-resolution digital file is created. The artist then spends hours skillfully perfecting the colors. After several proofs, the artwork is printed with archival quality inks onto museum-quality, acid-free canvas paper with an enhanced printer, specially modified for fine art reproduction. The giclee printing process provides a better color accuracy than other means of reproduction. All of our giclee prints are produced at the Jackson Junge Studio and are personally inspected, approved, and signed by the artist.
Offset Lithograph is a four-color lithographic print from an offset press. The original image or a photograph of the image is scanned into a computer to produce color separations, one for each color used in the printing process: cyan, yellow, magenta and black. These separations are then output to film with dot patterns that represent the values of each of the four process colors. The films are exposed to print plates, one for each color. On a printing press, the plates transfer the ink to a rubber blanket, which in turn offsets the ink onto the paper.
Limited Edition is a reproduction of an original work of art that is signed and sequentially numbered by the artist. The total number of prints is fixed or limited by the artist or the publisher. Limited edition can be offset lithographs, giclee, or any other type of reproduction. Most of the reproductions at Jackson Junge Gallery are limited to 500 in a series.
Poster is a reproduction that is usually printed in unlimited quantities with a lower grade of paper and inks than limited- or open-edition prints.
Certificate of Authenticity is a statement of authenticity of a limited edition print that states the title of the work, the print's number within the edition, the year it was printed, the reproduction information and status of the master file. It guarantees that the edition is limited and that the image will not be published again in the same form. Each Limited Edition print that we offer is signed by the artist and comes with this Certificate.
Canvas Paper All of the giclee on canvas reproductions at Jackson Junge Gallery are printed onto DAS GEO CANVAS. This specially treated fine art glossy canvas is a cotton poly blend and very water-resistant. After printing, all of the giclee reproductions are coated with a UV spray for an additional protection from harmful elements.
Inks EPSON UltraChrome inks are pigment based, which improves light and gas resistance. Since the pigment colorant exists in the particle form, only the surface is affected by light and gas, and the color inside remains vivid. Epson UltraChrome Ink utilizes this property of pigment ink effectively achieving superior light and gas resistance. These inks are archival and have a display life of over 75 years.
Printer All of the giclee reproductions are printed at the Jackson Junge Studio using the EPSON STYLUS PRO 4000.
