This piece is built of images of human savagery, war, and intolerance. Some images can be traced to the U.S. civil rights movement, others to the Khmer struggle in Cambodia, but the starting point was torture committed by U.S. troops against Iraqi prisoners in Abu Ghraib prison. The brutality I depict in this piece spans generations, ethnicities, and borders, and illustrates what I see as a type of insanity exhibited in people who are in positions of power, people to whom lives are entrusted. That conflict over natural resources and infringements to civil liberties are still so common speaks of nothing short of insanity to me, on a large scale.
